100-year-old bronze San Gabriel, California mission bell souvenir. Raised text of "Fecit Benitus A Regibus Ano D 1830”.  Lovely, clear, high pitched, resounding ring. Includes 4’ of aged leather strapping for hanging and a leather pull cord for ringing.

2 3/4" tall, 2 1/2” diameter; 11.5 oz. Excellent condition with a luscious green patina.

Designed and cast by Mrs. A.S.C. Forbes of Los Angeles between 1914 and 1937, this is a replica of one of the bells hanging at Mission San Gabriel, founded in 1771 in the foothills now just east of downtown Los Angeles. Forbes visited many of the missions of the southwest and sketched what she could see of the bells hanging in the towers.
