ANTIQUE MISSION INN BELL SOUVENIR, PANAMA-CALIFORNIA EXPOSITION

Incredibly rare antique souvenir from The Mission Inn in Riverside, California commemorating the Panama-California Exposition (a world exposition held in Balboa Park in San Diego between 1/1/1915 and 1/1/1917) and California’s El Camino Real.

Cast of bronze with a verdigris patina, it depicts a mission bell hanging in a trapezoid-shaped bell stand used by Father Serra of the California missions, topped by a grizzly bear- a symbol of the California Republic which had been adopted by the state legislature in 1911. One side is marked “1915 Panama Exposition, Mission Inn Riverside”, while the other side is marked “1769 El Camino Real- San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego.” Bell swings in its mounting and produces a delightful ting-a-ling ring.

4 inch height, 3 1/4 inch width, 1 1/4 inch depth. Excellent condition.
